Every year
several thousand Indian students go to the United States for
higher education. A large number of them are from the state
of Gujarat. While the entire process of getting admission in
the U.S. Universities is very long and complex, other
procedural formalities like getting a student visa also
require considerable amount of preparation and guidance.
There are several private consultants operating in this
field but their information is restricted. Not only this but
there is a significant gap between reality and perception.
Indian students rely upon piecemeal information received
from their friends, relatives and consultants and undergo
severe cultural shock upon their arrival in US university
campus.
Therefore, a
very strong need was felt that there should be a center
which has credibility and provides authentic and genuine
information, guidance and advice to the prospective students
for seeking admission in the US. The members of Indo
American Chamber of Commerce (IACC) addressed this issue by
organizing few seminars. However, seven successful
professionals of Ahmedabad who had been educated in the USA,
took the initiative and organized to form Indo American
Education Society as a non profit organization under the
chairmanship of Mr. Vishnu Varshney. These members
contributed personal funds to the initial corpus to meet the
start up expenses and approached US Educational Foundation
In India for granting IAES a Satellite Center Status.
USIEF set up in
1950 primarily as a binational organization to administer
Indo US Fulbright Exchange Program, undertook in the mid
sixties the responsibility of providing Educational
Advising Services in Metropolitan cities in India.
